Before you start
Have the cut list and the measured width and length of any fabric pieces you want to use. For this example, use inches and the default ¼-inch seam allowance.
Worked example
- Fabric: Blue, 40-inch usable WOF
- Stock: one custom piece, 20 × 10 inches
- Cuts: four 10 × 10-inch cut squares
- Pattern says: ½ yard (optional)
1. Open the planner and name the project
Open the planner in the button below. Enter Quick Start as the optional project name and leave Measurements set to Inches and yards.
2. Configure the fabric
Rename the first fabric Blue. Leave usable width at 40 inches. Usable WOF is the width you can actually cut after removing the selvages.
3. Add the fabric you already have
Choose Add custom piece. Enter 20 inches across the fabric, 10 inches lengthwise, and quantity 1. Each stock entry is a real physical rectangle; separate remnants never become one imaginary joined piece.
4. Enter the cuts
In the first cut row choose Blue, label it Square, enter quantity 4, width 10, height 10, and choose Cut. Cut means the dimensions already include seam allowance.
5. Optionally enter the pattern amount
Open Compare with pattern yardage and enter 0.5 yard for Pattern says. This is only a reference; it will not be reduced by stock.
6. Calculate the project plan
Select Calculate Cutting Plan. The 20 × 10-inch stock piece holds two squares. The remaining two squares fit across a new 40-inch-wide bolt in 10 inches of raw length. With the default safety and ⅛-yard purchase increment, Buy now is ⅜ yard.
7. Read the three different amounts
- Pattern says
- The external ½-yard reference.
- Fresh-fabric plan
- What all four squares require if purchased new, ignoring stock.
- Buy now
- The shortfall after the measured stock covers two squares.
8. Find the cutting plan
Under Blue, inspect Existing-stock allocations and Purchased fabric. Each section has cutting instructions, a diagram built from the same placements, and a text version.
You completed the Quick Start
You created a project, entered stock and cuts, calculated the shortfall, distinguished the main result concepts, and located the cutting plan.
